Lydia Surprenant

Co Owner

Lydia is a born-and-raised Outer Banks local, an ECU graduate, and a current middle school teacher in the area. She has many years of childcare experience, including working with children with diverse needs, and is passionate about providing safe, reliable, and compassionate care.

illiana Jauregui

Co Owner

Illiana is a lifelong resident of the Outer Banks and a proud ECU graduate. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree and brings over nine years of valuable experience in the childcare field. As the eldest child, Illiana has extensive experience working with children of all ages and diverse needs, and is dedicated to providing safe, supportive, and reliable care.

Our Story

Shoreline Sitters OBX began with a friendship that started long before our business ever did.

Lydia and Illiana met and quickly became close in sixth grade. From sleepovers and school dances to high school milestones and college adventures, their friendship grew right alongside their shared love for working with children. What began as casually babysitting for local families soon turned into something much bigger — a dream to create a trustworthy, compassionate, and dependable childcare service for the Outer Banks community they both proudly call home.

While attending East Carolina University, Lydia and Illiana decided to turn their years of experience and shared values into Shoreline Sitters OBX. Their goal was simple: to provide families with sitters they could truly trust — people who care for children not just as a job, but with genuine love, patience, and understanding.

Today, Shoreline Sitters OBX is built on friendship, faith, and a deep commitment to serving families with integrity, reliability, and heart. What started as a lifelong friendship has grown into a company dedicated to giving parents peace of mind and children a safe, happy place to be.
